چکیده

A rapid and reliable micropropagation protocol was developed for two sweet potato varieties, Mangawy Mabrokat Al-Shimal, by testing various growth regulators different carbon sources. Healthy cultures were taken from nodal segment explants potted plants. Adding BA more effective than Kinetin when used at the same concentration. The highest number of leaves per explant (5.22 leaves/ explant) longest shoots (2.88 cm) achieved 2 mg L-1 added to culture medium. For mean length (3.77 obtained 1 mg.l-1 kinetin used, (10.33 0.5 used. Sucrose best source multiplication this variety, followed fructose then glucose. On other hand, sucrose showed results AlShimal variety. 100% rooting all tested treatments. IBA better NAA root formation giving parameters. roots (22.33 roots/ 1.5 mg.l -1 While (12.87 NAA. hundred percent success acclimatization stage both varieties. Both varieties excellent tasty, especially Al-Shimal open-field cultivation

Anthocyanins in Purple Sweet Potato (Ipomoea batatas L.) Varieties

Anthocyanins from purple sweet potatoes can serve as natural colorants due to their high heat and light stability and are commonly used in juices, alcoholic beverages, jams, confectioneries, bread, snacks and noodles. There are several commercially available varieties of purple sweet potatoes, which can vary in storage root size, shape, and color. During the last decade sweet potato cultivars w...

Anti-ulcer activity of Ipomoea batatas tubers (sweet potato)

Background: Peptic ulcers occur in that part of the gastrointestinal tract which is exposed to gastric acid and pepsin, i.e., the stomach and duodenum. Gastric and duodenal ulcers are common pathologies that may be induced by a variety of factors such as stress, smoking and noxious agents including non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs. Ipomoea batatas tubers (sweet potato) contain ample amount...

Synergistic interactions of begomoviruses with Sweet potato chlorotic stunt virus (genus Crinivirus) in sweet potato (Ipomoea batatas L.).

Three hundred and ninety-four sweet potato accessions from Latin America and East Africa were screened by polymerase chain reaction (PCR) for the presence of begomoviruses, and 46 were found to be positive. All were symptomless in sweet potato and generated leaf curling and/or chlorosis in Ipomoea setosa. The five most divergent isolates, based on complete genome sequences, were used to study i...

Disentangling the Origins of Cultivated Sweet Potato (Ipomoea batatas (L.) Lam.)

Sweet potato (Ipomoea batatas (L.) Lam., Convolvulaceae) counts among the most widely cultivated staple crops worldwide, yet the origins of its domestication remain unclear. This hexaploid species could have had either an autopolyploid origin, from the diploid I. trifida, or an allopolyploid origin, involving genomes of I. trifida and I. triloba. We generated molecular genetic data for a broad ...

Endogenous microbial contamination during In vitro culture of sweet potato [Ipomoea batatas (L.) Lam]: identification and prevention

Endogenous microorganisms mostly bacteria and fungi were observed under microscope. Altogether three bacterial strains and three fungal strains were isolated from the contaminated sweet potato in vitro cultures. Among all the bacterial strains one of them was found to be gram positive and the rest were gram negative. Corynebaterium was identified as the gram positive rod shaped bacteria and two...
